Melany (Lanagan) O’Brien was born and raised in South Sioux City, Nebraska. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree, with Distinction, in 1989 from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Ms. O’Brien earned a Juris Doctorate, Cum Laude, in 1993 from Creighton University School of Law. She was admitted to the Nebraska Bar and the Federal Courts in 1993. She is also a trained mediator. Her practice focuses on Personal Injury and Product Liability Law, and Civil Litigation. Ms. O’Brien is a member of the Nebraska State Bar, and has served on the Practice and Procedure, Mediation, and Ways and Means committees, and currently serves on the House of Delegates. She is a member of the Omaha Bar Association, and has served as the Secretary and as a member of the Executive Council. She is a member of the Nebraska Women’s Bar Association and served as past President. Ms. O’Brien is a recipient of the David A. Svoboda Trial Award and is the author of “Lead Poisoning Prevention in Nebraska,” The Nebraska Lawyer Magazine and “Personal Injury & Workers’ Compensation Proceeds in a Divorce,” Nebraska Association of Trial Attorneys. She is a member of the Nebraska State Bar Foundation.
